What’s your main concern?

Well well well… here we are again; the last month of the year, my last blog of the year.

With the significance of the month at the forefront, I have decided to slightly put my skincare teaching hat down & just spew some thoughts onto this screen.

Now that we’re all in the obvious (for most of us), “can’t wait for the end of the year” mode, dare I ask if you’ve had time to reflect on your 2023? I had a conversation with a friend last night & as I heard the words effortlessly streaming from my mind into the atmosphere, I realised how much this year taught me. Admittedly, we all know lessons & learnings aren’t generally easy, they are not without hurt & pain, & sometimes they leave scars, however, when we finally really learn, there is a peace, a comfort, an almost shedding old skin  epiphany & isn’t that beautiful?

“What is your main concern” is a line skincare therapists use all the time, it’s significant because treating your skin is in our hands, but identifying what bothers you is the starting point. I can’t help but sit here & wonder, do we ask ourselves this question enough in our day to day lives?

This friend asked me if I was a little worried about my age in relation to settling down & getting married, he also asked if I would consider being married in less than a year. When faced with questions like these, would you ask yourself “What is my main concern”? I think I’ll leave that to marinate.

This year I finally learned to understand that the only opinion that matters is God’s. I have been Christian for many years but this year I learned that I have had a really bad habit of taking issues, cares, concerns out of God’s hands & attempting to fumble my way through them-all the while wondering why things have to be so heavy, so hard, & why some things are so confusing. I vow stop trying to steer my ship & accept more rest. This life can be so tumultuous, how can we be in charge all the time? I don’t know about you but I’m exhausted!

There will always be things to complain about, there’s always somewhere we feel we’re falling short & always some unnecessary thing to deter us. I’m guilty of trying too hard in my own strength to fix everything, overthinking, & wearing myself out, but instead of doing what I’ve always done, it’s time to shift gears. Those of you who know me, know that I’m not one for new year’s resolutions, I like to think of something about myself I could work on, this will be my most challenging one at my big age 😂 I hope when you see me next you’ll remind me & remind yourself to put it down & stop wrestling.

From my amazing staff & I, we wish you a wonderful festive season, a very merry Christmas, a safe new year & most of all, a peace & joy that stays with you always ❤️

As always, it has been our pleasure to spoil you, listen to you, laugh with you & teach you about your skin this year.

We are closing on Saturday the 23rd of December & will be ready to welcome you back on the 3rd of January.

All my love, Laurien

P.S Thank you to Pst James for the eye opening message “God has called us to rest & not to wrestle” You & my City Life Church Lonehill family are so dear to my heart.

And just like that…

A little over 8 years ago a woman with very limited knowledge on lease agreements, took over a little salon in Fourways Mall. Looking back at all the changes that have taken place since that day in 2015, I honestly am in shock that she hasn’t thrown in the towel yet!

I’m sure if that woman knew what was laying ahead of her, the chances of taking the plunge would’ve been slim to none; but isn’t that the way life works? If we knew what road we’d need to travel to get the things we want, what God would have to take us through to reach to our blessing – how many of us would still do it?

We at Matis Fourways have officially found new premises and we’re so excited for you to join in & follow the journey with us on our Instagram page (click👈🏽) If you don’t already follow us, please do! We’d love for you to enter our competition & stand a chance to win treatments & products worth over R3500! (may definitely be more…) 😉It’s been over 3 years here at Kingfisher Office Park & the time has come for us to move on & we have no doubt all of you will love our new spot!

The plans are in place & things are moving along, are you excited to see our new store? For the past 2 months the overwhelming influx of worries about things I’m forgetting, the constant whirlwind of ideas, thoughts, measurements, the many to-do lists, & the unavoidable stress, got me looking tired & a little haggard to say the least. This month’s promos will be aimed at all of us who have too many thoughts, never ending to-do lists & not nearly enough down time. I hope you enjoy them!

Our last day of trading at Kingfisher Office park will be Saturday the 29th of July & we will open in our new premises on Saturday the 5th of August. We will be closed from 30th July -5th Aug.

How do you (really) handle change?

With all the change we’ve had to navigate through, I found myself thinking about all the times in the past 6 years my staff & I have been thrown a curve ball & how we’ve handled it.

I remember Chuma (my ride or die therapist for the past 5+ years) was in a flat panic around 2016 when I broke the news that we’d be changing nail brands 🤣🙄 She was rather sentimental, may I dare say, nearly nervous watching me pack up all that OPI stock. Today, she’s a firm advocate & lover of i.b.d & Artistic, would not entertain using another other brand & all is still well in the Matis Fourways household.

On a more serious note, this day in February 2021 things are just all completely different & we’ve had to adapt or die! Different shop, different ways of trading, adapting our spa services, finding new innovative ways to talk to clients & cater to their needs; a different world!

I’ve been told on more than one occasion that I handle change well, I guess I do! 😎 Isn’t it strange that in a time of trouble, or when difficult decisions need to be made, we see what we’re really made of? What strength have you seen in yourself over the last year?

If the change in the world around us wasn’t enough, Matis Paris decided (BC – Before Covid) to revamp the entire brand! Formulations, names, lines, packaging, logo… EVERYTHING! Now, when I look at my beautiful shelves with the new gorgeous, luxury skincare & body products, even more luxurious & beautiful than they were before, I just cannot help falling in love 🥰 ;when the changes started, the feelings I experienced were anything but love.

In this ever-changing, volatile business climate, when people are still not sure what they should & shouldn’t be doing, we’re looking at ways to make things easier, more accessible & enjoyable for all our clients. Yes, there are still clients who aren’t comfortable visiting the spa & that’s alright! We have the best in luxury, results driven products that allows our clients to use the best in at-home professional skincare & our experts are available on whatsapp chat, via chat on our site, email or a direct call to the spa to guide & assist with the best skincare products to use at home.

Considering coming back? Maybe your skin is dealing with some “maskne”, your back is holding all your stress & tension or your feet might be close to damaging your egyption cotton sheets?😰 We’re ready to welcome you back with (virtual) open arms! Be comforted knowing that our new premises is spacious, access controlled, has secure parking & our staff have your safety in mind at all times. Give us a call to chat or send us a message for more info.

The moral of the story? We have to go through it to get to the other side, right? Fight through the turmoil to see perfection, work & pray in times of uncertainty until one day we sit back & stare at the beautiful shelves & say… We’re doing something right!
